“Don’t be afraid of the space between your dreams and reality”. The graduation speaker stated this at my second Masters degree graduation at UD (I forget who said it). It spoke to me to me on many levels. I have it as the signature for my personal emails and IG account a daily reminder to push FEAR aside, to move forward towards the realization and manifestation of my dreams, and to love the “in between journey” that we call life. It’s so sweet!
What Brought you to Yoga:
I was an avid runner and Cornell lacrosse player who got hurt. I had to stop playing lacrosse at 19 in college due to knee injuries. I felt my identity was built on being a college athlete, so, needless to say, my world changed – “identity crisis!” The summer between sophomore and junior year in college I moved to Bethany Beach with one of my best friends from high school, worked at the Lighthouse, and picked up a book by Beryl Bender Birch, called Power Yoga, and taught myself the beginnings of Ashtanga. Needless to say, I fell in love with it and began practicing, I healed my knees back to running shape that summer and, well, my soul back to living shape.
Artists Most Likely Heard in your Class:
Trevor Hall, Coldplay, and maybe Dave Matthews.
Feel good jam? This one is kind of funny. We Didn’t Start the Fire by Billy Joel…only because: I. Know. All. The Words. I have a strange talent for remembering lyrics. When I sing this I think of my brother and how he wants me to go on that lyric game show…
Off the Mat Favorites:
Eating tacos, Reading astrology stuff, taking pictures, connecting with friends near and far, working my full time job, surfing, teaching at UD, running, working out, hanging out with friends, seeing family, traveling, or playing with my dog Molly on the beach. She loves to go paddle boarding.
